Horticulture industry in Tanzania is growing at an annual average rate of as high as 9 – 12 per cent. The major drivers for the subsector growths are high population growth, high urbanization rate, growth in disposable income associated with economic growth of more than 6% per annum, awareness on healthy consumption and very important, competitiveness in the export market. Export
Several exporting companies have a base in Iringa, they have invested in export quality French beans, Snap sugar, snow peas, baby corns, strawberries, etc. Iringa has the best conditions for avocado, macadamia nuts, blueberries and other highly marketed crops.
Logistics
The region is transected by the Tanzania-Zambia highway, the Regional Headquarter is 500 Kilometres from Dar es Salaam Port. There are scheduled linking Iringa town with Songwe International Airport in Mbeya and Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. There is a wide network of rural roads and electricity supply lines required for cold rooms.
